52 children infected with Covid-19, six die

27 children who died of Covid-19 like symptoms, were not tested
52 children have been infected with coronavirus in Bangladesh, according to a child rights campaigner.
Between April 9 and 30, 52 children got infected and six of them died, said Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum (BSAF), after analysing media reports.
Actually 33 children died of Covid-19 like symptoms, but only six of them were reported tested. Without test reports, the cause of death of 27 children was not determined, said Abdus Shahid Mahmood, Director of BSAF in a media statement issued on Friday.
Samples were collected for 24 children, but results were not published, the statement said.
Quoting media reports, BSAF said that between April 9 and 30, 83 people were either infected with Covid-19 or had Covid-19 like symptoms.
Covid-19 was found in a four-month-old baby, the youngest victim, while the oldest child was 17 years of age.
“The IEDCR gives updates for the nation, which is appreciated. But the daily update does not really clearly mention the situation of children between 1 and 18 years of age,” said Shahid.
It will make it difficult for those who are either working alongside the affected children or will work on their rehabilitation in the future, he added.
IEDCR does categorize an age group between 10 years and 20 years, but the category includes both children and youth, which makes it difficult to get information on how many children got infected in reality, said BSAF.
But the finer parsing of data is very important for government and private organisations working with children, according to BSAF.

It demanded that the directorate general of health services disclose age wise data of children separately.
